Boston can be considered the educational capital of the United States to many people. It holds America's first public school, Boston Latin School in 1635, and first, and most renowned, colleges, Harvard in 1636, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1916. With so many other colleges developing in the state, such as Boston University (BU 1839), Massachusetts became the center of higher edcation and medicine. The economy is
majorly based upon research, electronics, engineering, finance and technology--mainly biotechnology.Boston is the first in the country in jobs per square mile, far ahead of New York and Washington D.C., and has one of the highest cost of living in the United states,although it remains high on the world livability rankings.
